Gyllyngvase beach, commonly known as Gylly beach is one of the most popular and largest beaches in Falmouth, and is a perfect spot for families. It is a 10/15 minute walk from Falmouth Town Centre and is one of the seven beaches in Cornwall that has received a Blue Flag Award in 2019, recognising its clean, well-managed beaches and high water quality.
The beach here is crescent shaped and sandy and has 3 sites to rockpool at – Gylly North, Gylly South and Gylly Extreme South. When the tide is low, Gylly North connects to Castle Beach.
As of April 2021
Furrowed or Montagu’s crab (Xantho hydrophilus) is most commonly found at Gylly beach so be sure to lift up big rocks and have a look underneath to find this crab.
If you are travelling by car there is a Cornwall Council car park 100 yards away from the beach. There is also street parking available, although limited in the summer months.
If travelling by train, you can alight at either Falmouth Docks or Falmouth Town station and are a 10-20 minute walk along the beaches.
