In an ambitious effort to bridge communities with the captivating world beneath the waves, The Rock Pool Project embarked on a transformative journey known as the Blue Recovery Project. Funded and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this initiative sought to unveil the rich tapestry of marine life and heritage at the doorstep of the communities in Plymouth and Falmouth.

A Journey of Discovery and Conservation
Our mission was twofold: to engage and to educate. By organizing free, expert-guided rock pooling events alongside comprehensive citizen science training, we invited adults and families to step into the shallow waters and uncover the wonders hidden beneath the waves. These activities were not just about exploration; they were about empowerment. Participants were equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of their local marine ecosystems.
Cultivating Citizen Scientists
The essence of the Blue Recovery Project was to transform curiosity into action. Participants, regardless of their age or background, became citizen scientists, contributing valuable data that enhances our understanding of marine biodiversity and its vulnerabilities. This endeavor not only enriched our scientific community with high-quality, curated data but also elevated the participants’ connection to their marine heritage, instilling a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the environment.
